  • Ack - Acknowledge, to understand and/or have received
  • Admin – Administration
  • AdminO – Administration Officer
  • Adj – Adjutant – a cadet parade position not a rank
  • AC – Air cadet
  • ACL – Air Cadet League
  • ACR – Annual Ceremonial Review – Final Ceremonial Parade of the Training Year
  • AGM – Annual General meeting
  • AKA – Also known as

B
C
  • Canteen – snack bar
  • Capt – Captain
  • CO – Commanding Officer
  • CO Parade – inspection by the CO of the cadets and a march past (military march) of the cadets.  This is typically 1-per month to practice for their year end ACR
  • Cpl – Corporal – cadet rank
  • CI – Civilian Instructor
  • Cmdr – Commander
  • CATO – Cadet Administrative and Training Orders
  • CAF – Canadian Armed Forces
  • CTC – Cadet Training Center

D
  • DND – Department of National Defense
  • Dress – the clothing type worn by cadets – such as full, civilian, summer, ceremonial, and field.

E
  • ETA – Estimated time of arrival
  • EO – Enabling Objective

F
  • FCpl – Flight Corporal – Cadet NCO rank
  • FSgt – Flight Sergeant – Senior Cadet NCO rank
  • Flt – Flight
  • Flt Comd – Flight Commander – Cadet parade position (Not associated with individual rank)
  • Flt Sgt – Flight Sergeant – Cadet parade position (Not associated with individual rank)
  • FTX – Field Training Exercise

  • GCK – General Cadet Knowledge – basic information that cadets learn in the cadet program
  • GPS – Gliding Pilot Scholarship

  • HQ – headquarters
  • Hrs – hours – 24 hour clock eg – 1400hrs or 2pm

I
  • IACE – International Air Cadet Exchange
  • IMP – Individual Meal Packet – full meal in a bag, main portion is a boil-in-the bag entree.

  • Kit – items needed for specific event

  • LAC – Leading Air Cadet – a cadet rank
  • LT – Lieutenant
  • LHQ – Local headquarters – (aka LTC)
  • LTC – Local Training Centre (aka LHQ)

  • Mess Dinner – Formal dinner following the traditions of the RCAF 
  • MRB - Merit Review Board - held to advance to the rank of WO1 or WO2
  • MRO – Monthly Routine Orders
  • MRE – Meals Ready to Eat (similar to IMP)

  • NLT – No later than
  • NCM – Non-Commissioned Member
  • NSTC – National Summer Training Centre (summer training scholarship  – ie PPR, GPS, etc).

O
  • OCdt – Officer Cadet
  • OIC – Officer in Charge – refers to officer responsible for an event
  • OPI – Officer of Primary Interest – Sometimes used in place of OIC

  • Parade night – Regular (Wednesday) Training Night
  • PMV – Personal/Private Motor Vehicle
  • PO: – Performance Objective
  • PO: EO: – Performance Objective / Enabling Objective
  • PPS – Power Pilot Scholarship
  • PSRYT – Positive Social Relations for Youth Training – a mandatory program taught to cadets  discussing expectations in the cadet program and in life.

  • RO – Reviewing Officer
  • RSO – Range Safety Officer
  • RCACS – Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron
  • RCSU – Regional Cadet Support Unit (regional supporting HQ)

S
  • 2IC – Second in Command/Charge (usually associated with exercises or activities)
  • 2LT – Second Lieutenant
  • SRB – Scholarship Review Boards, Interview Process for choosing cadets for National Summer Training – Held for PPS, GPS, IACE,  AATC-AO,AATC-AM,
  • Sgt – Sergeant
  • SOP – Standard Operating Procedures
  • Sqn Comd – Squadron Commander – the Senior most cadet in the squadron assigned to the top parade position
  • SSC – Squadron Sponsoring Committee
  • SupO – Supply Officer
  • SWO – Squadron Warrant Officer – a parade position not a rank

  • Trg - Training
  • TrgO - Training Officer
  • Training Year – From September to June when squadron based training is done

  • UCCMA – Unit Cadet Conflict Management Advisor

  • WO – Warning Order – information given for specific event
  • WO1 – Warrant officer First Class
